Note for Medicare patients needing infusion therapy. (01.16.10)

Medicare does not cover home infusion therapy. It does cover in-office infusions like ours.

This has been the law for Medicare beneficiaries for many years. Nevertheless, we find that many of our Medicare patients are solicited by home health companies hoping to do their infusions. These patients need to be aware that their out-of-pocket expenses for home infusion therapy will be considerably more than they will be in the office setting.

We support proposed legislation to change this law, as does our professional society, Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). Home infusion therapy is appropriate for certain patients.
